Great Backyard Bird Count

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, National Audubon Society, and Birds Canada organize this event each February. Bird lovers are asked to spend time in their favorite places watching, counting, and reporting the birds they find. Observations recorded help scientists better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations.

To participate:

  1. Pick a location

  2. Watch birds for 15 minutes or more at least once

    over the four days

  3. Share bird sightings using Merlin or eBird
